Double Trouble Tour 2017 - Jane Lee Hooker & Layla Zoe
Double Trouble 2017
Layla Zoe and Jane Lee Hooker tour Europe from March 2nd.
There are regular tours – and then there’s Double Trouble. Twice the bands. Twice the rock. Twice the roll. You do the math.
Conceived by the iconic Ruf Records label, Double Trouble 2017 is your chance to watch two rising stars play back-to-back sets on the same bill. Kicking off on March 2nd, this year’s tour features Jane Lee Hooker and Layla Zoe, and tickets for the gigs across Europe are so hot they’ll burn your fingers.
You don’t want to miss Jane Lee Hooker. With last year’s acclaimed debut album No B!, the New York five-piece breathed fresh mojo into the blues songbook, rocket-fuelling classics from Willie Dixon’s Shake For Me to Albert King’s The Hunter, and reinvigorating the genre for a new generation. “Not a lot of bands really capture the excitement, sweat and charisma that the ’70s bands generated,” they say. “We’ve got that spirit oozing out of us.”
No B! was praised by the UK’s Classic Rock magazine for “putting a rocket under the blues standards”, but you haven’t had the full Jane Lee Hooker experience until you watch the lineup tear it up live. “Our live shows are a phenomenon,” explain the band. “We play hard, fast and loud – and we like to take the audience on a rock ‘n’ roll journey through all the emotions.
“For Double Trouble 2017,” they add, “we’re going to be playing all the songs from our debut album, and some of our new tunes which will be on our second album. We’re looking forward to meeting new fans and turning new people on to our sound. It’s a really great mix of rock, blues and soul.”
Give it up for Layla Zoe. Right now, the Canadian singer-songwriter is at the top of her game, having showcased her soaring vocals and blossoming original songcraft with last year’s acclaimed tenth album Breaking Free. From the confessional balladry of Sweet Angel to the Zeppelin swagger of Backstage Queen, these are songs that stand out in the talent-show era and reach deep into the soul. As Layla says: “I rip people’s hearts out, then put them back in.”
Drawing on her enviable back catalogue and finding new emotional depths in her songs each night, Layla can hold a crowd spellbound like few other performers on the scene. “I’m very excited for this double bill tour and to play on stage at some of my favourite clubs in Europe with my new band,” she says. “My live shows are very different from the studio. I’m known for being raw, energetic, passionate and tender at the same time. Often, people tell me they’ve cried at my shows, either because the music or the emotions hit deep into their hearts.
“For Double Trouble,” she adds, “I’m looking forward to performing songs from Breaking Free, but also play a few older songs and perhaps a cover. And who knows? Maybe we’ll even get onstage together at some point…”
